Buick Roadmaster

I just bought my younger daughter, age 20, a '94 Buick Roadmaster.

It took her about 10 minutes on the internet to figure out it has an LT1
'Vette engine in it.

I'm suprised she'd even consider being seen in such a hooptie. Quite the sleeper, that one!

Plus room enough in the trunk for all the amps and subs anyone can handle!

Theres an impala ss forum out there that has alot of useful info on that platform - Impala, roadmaster, fleetwood.

My dad has a 94 SS, I sold my 96 SS show car and my 05 SS got totaled. Very reliable cars and fun to drive with the right mods. I had lots of work done to my 96 and my dads runs pretty good. He also has almost 250,000 trouble free miles on it. The Roadmasters just float down the road.

Six years ago I bought her big sister an '89 Bonneville to drive 100 a
day round trip to school. I think that is where the younger one picked up
a taste for the big boats. She was first looking at a Grand Marquis advertised
with 20K miles. After I CarFaxed it came up at 320k miles.

Wow - I'm 35 and I wouldn't be caught dead driving that grandpa-mobile. An Impala SS, maybe....

+1. I had 96 wagon. Fast mofo, once sorted out, even with 2.93 in the back. Still miss mine. Tons of space + comfort + safe + relatively good on gas (for the size). TONS on info and helpful hands on ImpalaSS forum. Good choice.

I had alot of mods done to my 96 SS. I autocrossed it on weekends. Mostly all suspension and brake mods. Full Hotckiss controls arms and sway bars. Adjustable KYB shocks, Brembo brakes, 3.42 rear, ported heads and intake, full exhaust and dyno tune. I still got 25 on the highway. Great for a 4000lb beast. I would love to have another one but not practical right now. I love the Woody wagons.

Wait until you have to do a tune up on it.

They put the distributor where? Where do those plug wires go?

They are not that bad to do if you have done them. Do it on a Camaro LT1 then you will throw a fit.

Re: Buick Roadmaster

I changed the opti spark on my '92 Corvette. It was a PITA, but I used a later model vented one so I wouldn't have to do it again. The main design flaw was placing it under the water pump where, as soon as the pump developed a leak, you had to replace both.

yep, biggest liability is the opticrap. BUT they can be had much cheaper now. Make sure to go to sites that give dealers names for cheaper prices. The aftermarket ones at the parts houses are not worth buying.

If you google it, there is a fix. You still have to buy a new distributor and
modify it. This greatly reduces the chance of repeated problem. I expect
I will be doing this eventually as I read that is a case of not will it fail but
when.

Maybe I'm a little crazy, but I would love to have something like this to cart my drums around in. Dad had a 73 Olds Custom Cruiser when I was in HS. The 455 wasn't very good on gas though........

Memories.....

I believe it was built in Arlington Tx. at my plant along with Cadillac Coupe De Ville. Same quality network standards. Rides like a cloud.

My first car was a '67 Buick Riviera. 430 CI engine, 360 HP. Torque monster. Even with 90,000 miles on it.

I still think it is one of the prettiest US cars ever made.

Roadmaster, not so much.

I wrecked that Riviera in October '73. Hit a Mercury Capri broadside (they turned left in front of me). Kid in the other car--the passenger--was killed. I walked away with a couple of bruises.

Lesson: Kids need a tank. Good job, dad!

+1 on the maintainence. It can be nightmare. That made me trade it in - it was just something else every month. Nothing major, never left me on the road but I needed something reliable for school and work. I still miss it tho...

On way to Jennings...

I have a feeling I know what you're thinking, but consider that a new kid driver is out on the roads with Suburbans, Excursions and double trailer semis. You want some sheet metal around that kid as kids usually aren't all that aware of the danger.

Whatchu talkin' 'bout Willis? I fit my Pearl Export kit in a Mazda MX6. Yeah, a bit tight, but it fit! Got better than 25 MPG, too!
