My animated compass is gone. All I get is the cursed red x. (Its not even the faster GREEN x.)

Unreasnbl is correct.

Since the compass is still available at http://www.gifs.net/animate/compass.gif, they must have turned off linking. So now you can't link to it from here.

You can either host the compass at your own site - or one that supports hosting. There's a recent thread here about that, use the search function. The word host or hosting should turn it up.

Or upload the avatar here.

The compass is WAY too big. 55.6kb. That sucks.

Shrinking it to fit here made it pretty ugly too....

I'd use another hosting service. Like the one ginoe posted.

OR many people get a bit of free webspace with their ISP account. For example, I have 20 Megs with my account. So you might want to check into that and host it there.

I tried hosting it at imageshack, but after applying the link, this board still said it was too big.

 Any ideas why?

Well, since no one seems to know the answer to my earlier question, I have tried a new avatar. But, as you can see, even though I was successful in adding the new one, the red X won't go away.

Does anyone have any ideas about THIS problem?

Ok, now I can help... a little bit.

The reason your old avatar worked is because someone (an admin) kindly gave you that avatar. It was probably done when you made a donation to cause some years back.

So that original avatar is handled differently than the new ones.

Unfortunately, that's all the help I can provide. We need to get an admin involved to fix the red x issue (mods don't have the correct privileges). I will contact chuckc and see if he can fix it. If it's not taken care of in the next day or two, ping chuckc.
