View Full Version : block off installation
I just removed my tank and was doing a little look-see at what I'll need to do to install the block off kit (it's enroute). I was just curious if y'all had issues with installing on the right side, due to radiator hose AND also getting to that plug at the airbox. Looks tight and possibly curse worthy. I know this is a lame thread, but I've got nothing else better to do..

Seeing you're user name I understand your concerns. :stpoke:
It's REALLLLLLY quite easy. Four bolts (10mm heads) and about 15mins should just about cover the off/on part. Once they bolts are loose unloosen by hand and pop the covers off.

I took a zip-tie and tied the rad. hose up and out of the way, to access the right side breather plate. Made things go a lot faster this way.
As far as the breather hose running into the air box, that might be a bitch to get to. I pulled the bank of carbs off my bike to install an IVAN's Jet Kit. Once the carbs were out of the way, it was simple to plug that hole in the airbox.
Good luck!

Do the reed valves stay in place when using Muzzys block-off plates?

That's what I was thinking, but I thought I read somewhere that the Muzzys plates were thicker to make up for the reed valves.
What's this I'm reading about gaskets not being required on the 1200?
Did they start using o-rings with the 1200 or something?
Clearly I've not dug into my new 1200 yet.
I didn't spend the $30.00 or so for the MUZZY block off plates.
Rather....I went to my local hardware store with one of the OEM plates in hand.
I went to the "doo-dad" section, and found some chrome metal caps (plugs) that fit the holes in the OEM plates perfectly. They were a nice snug fit, but....I made sure that they stayed that way with some RTV sealer.
Total cost was under a $1.00...........
BTW: How can ya not love chrome?

It's a proven fact that chrome slows your bike down.

So if I want to remove the emissions crap on my 1200, I can yank the hose, remove the stock block off plate and install my choice of stopper (5/8" freezeplug for me....) and remove the reds and can put the cover back on? On my 1100 I had to leave everything on under there.
ALso, are the main reed valve covers the same for the 1100 and 1200? I have my original 1100 reed valve covers still (used Muzzy block off plates...) so if they are the same I can go ahead and get them ready to go with freeeze plugs and all...

Cleaner look, less weight, cause it's bling.

LOL I still have my stock 1100 reed valve covers, still with the tubing supplied with the Holeshot jet kit stuck in them :rof:
Going to clean them up, pound in a 5/8" freeze plug, shoot some fresh paint on 'em and swap the in for the stockers on my 1200.

i dont remember the size but i bought the tubing in hard ware section at,home depot,it is desighned for hot water and fits in the elbos really good ,it has been on my bike like that for 4 years now and is black plastic,i wanna say 5/8 but all you need to do is measure the inside of your elbos and turn them to face each other,if i remember right the piece of tubing i got was 2 feet long and only cost about 3 dollars,i will look tomorrow and see if i can find the leftover out in my storage, and let you know size for sure......

I used Chrispy's machined aluminum plugs. I don't remember noticing them since I put them in, but every time someone posts on this subject I remember that they're there and I get a large shot of pride. :laff: :laff:

OK, I just checked the tube I used... 4" long and 11/16" to 5/8", or about 18mm in diameter.....
You will be better off just running to NAPA and grabbing the 5/8" freeze plugs, or you can go to Home Depot and the sort, and find those chrome hole covers that snap in... they are in the aisle with all the drawers you can pull out and look for those type f things.
I am going the freeze plug route... 2 bucks and am done

They may have to look for them, but they have 'em.
I left mine in the freezer over night, put the covers in the oven at 175F.
I used a small piece of wood to tamp them into place. Tight.

I've had the 4" PVC pipe in place for about three years now. Next time I have the valve cover off, in go the 5/8" plugs. Talk about your mod upgrade.

Yeah I was going from Ivan's istructions to search's here, to the service manual figuring out where the block-off plates went and what to remove. Looking at that thing underneath the frame it's hard to tell where all that spagetti goes. I was worried I was taking off too much and then I saw the big picture between the jet kit, airbox mod, and block-off plates.
