I am going to go with a full helmet when riding the REX

anyone know a helmet that is vented to the max? or best vented for around $200?

If you want good venting that rules out just about anything by Shoei!:( I've heard that the HJC's also vent poorly also, although I've not tried one. The only helmets I've ever heard anyone say vent really well are Arai, but you aren't gonna touch one without spending big bucks!

Sorry I can't be more help, but at least that's my opinion on what NOT to get.

I use a HJC CL14 riding the Memphis area in summer.
Airflow is pretty good. I usuall ride with the shield 1 click from full
closed and get good air and eye protection with very little shield noise.
theprice is right too. You can find them on the internet for less than $120.
I find white helmets are much cooler than darker ones in the summer sun.
The color may make more difference than the venting.

Currently, I own both a Shoei RF-900 and an HJC FG-12. The HJC has much better venting at a much better price. However, if you have the money, go buy an Arai helmet; they offer superior ventilation than both Shoei or HJC.

That's interesting, I was just reading a review about HJC helmets and they said the venting was inferior to the Shoei's. I may have to try one.

Maybe find a used Arai Quantum f. The BEST  ventilation of all helmets I've tried. New they are over your $200. limit though. Regards Snake

I have both and the Arai is definitely has better ventilation but the HJC CL-14 U have does well also if you keep it slightly open as a previous post also mentioned. Arai's are big bucks, the only reason I have one is because it came with the bike. The helmet was nearly brand new, color matched, and more improtantly fit my head. Anyway, good luck!

My new Arai is awesome -- great ventilation not just for the heat but when riding in the rain it doesn't fog up at all completely closed. I also love the adjustable cheek pads that you can get bigger or smaller depending on how much your face fluctuates  Also that the liner is removable for washing. Used is the only way you'll get one for under 200.00 though.

Arai is the way to go. I wanted a Quantumf but it didn't fit as good as the Astal. The venting in the Astal is still good. I wouldn't buy a used helmet unless you knew the person. Spend another $200 and know that you have got a helmet in good shape. -Justin

I got the cl-14 too for the $$ ya can't do much better. I also ride with the shield open 1 notch from closed, and the venting is great. At accellorated speeds the visor will shut on its own, but at that speed ya don't mind and the venting is still good:assimilat

Try a bandit helmet!
It's more vented than the Hussein brothers after the marines came for a visit.
It doesn't have any vent-channels for the skull, just for the front of the face.
And the visir sucks, doesn't seal at all so it's reeealy noisy.
But the look is mean as hell (tried to help that look with green spraypaint and bullet-hole stickers).
I heard that there is a new model with improved visir, called super-bandit.

A friend of mine (who has owned a number of great helmets) recently tried one of the ICON helmets and said it vented great.

The price for Icon is certainly right. Ayone know how safe they are?

Snell approved, and you're right about the price.

I find that the AGV X-Vent is the best ventilated helmet on my shape head. I have an Arai Quantum f and do not find it nearly as well vented. I can feel the air move through the lower chin vent and flow up past the shield and my face. I can feel the forehead and top vent air moving even though I wear a nylon cap under the helmet.

A problem though: you can't shut off the top vent when it is cold out, although with the other vents closed, little air moves through the top vents.

Dennis Kirk has a sale at their scratch and dent store (the Helmets are neither scratched or dented) with AGV X-Vents around $150. They normally sell for about $385.

Icon helmets are made by HJC in Korea. Perfectly adequate helmets and priced very aggresively. A friend of mine just took delivery of one of their two limited production, special edition helmets that was on display at the Dealer Show back in February. Took 6 months but very nice level of fit and finish.
