The title of this whole outting is "Trinity Alps".........and yet we have missed some of the most spectacular mountains in our other two rides. With Tyler's permission, I propose a loop through the northern section and a little exploring; 228 miles of riding. I have not ridden the path from Callahan west until it meets the Salmon River, and it looks like something we need to do. Now I have been known to end up on a gravel road or two, but according to Google Map this is fully paved. There is a small stretch of "fire road" west of Cecilville, but I think it's worth it.

So in keeping with our tradition for this weekend:

1. The ride will leave at 8:00am sharp from the Victorian Inn parking lot.
2. Make sure you have already had breakfast and bikes are topped off before 8:00am.
3. Lunch in Willow Creek.

Mike I COULD be wrong but I think the road to Sawyers Bar is the one we went on a few years back ..Went up about 10 miles and still climbing, stopped and came back..Occasional sections of the one lane ( which is all there was ) just gone of the side of the mountain :wow:

Yep, and we turned toward Sawyers Bar before retreating. Since then, I've been all the way across the northern road that ends in Etna. From Sawyers Bar to Etna is BIG FUN!!!! But I've never run the section from Callahan to Cecilville and then on to HWY 96.

My plan is hauling two bikes up on my trailer. Red one for the track green one for a ride. Hoping to bring kid's RZ350 and have him do track. I may haul a bike for Puffman. Puffman may do track day. Might bring the wife. She'll have enough and want to go home Sunday morning. So will Puffman. my kid will be bored too if the track bike isn't available for a saturday ride.

I may take my wife and kid to the track day/rally. They will have to stay at the motel when I ride. They could follow along in the truck and haul gas. slight delivery fee.Could also pull the trailer for Rich's Husky.

This one is probably the most gas station scarce. I know there is gas in Orleans (135 miles). If that is too far, you could top off at Trinity Center (30 miles from Weaverville).

If you need a chase car for this ride then count me in.

You know there are sections that are not "car friendly". Right?? I know I'm speaking to the local, but want to make sure there are no surprises. Gas is not going to be a problem..................................unless the gas stations run out of it. :laff:

I'm not a local to that area. Callahan to Somes Bar is the unknown, we'll go do a prerun just to scout it out and check the road conditions.

I will be joining ya all on the Weaverville ride/gathering as a guest of Justzrmark. No i don't have a ZRX (but i did sit on one once). I see there are some questions about the Callahan/Somes bar section of Fridays route...and that Redcliff may preride it. Anyway much of it appears to have been recently resurfaced according the post below that i found from another site...date of post is 10/21/06 Very nice section of HWY 3.
At Callahan we headed west on to the Cecilville rd. This section all the way to Cecilville has fresh pavement from last year. Really nice ride !
Just past Cecilville the road turns into what I call "single track". This is a one lane highway for quite a while. Most of the pictures and video were taken in this section. Beautiful country !
Met a rider from Washington state out there too..........big smile on his face !
We took it really easy and enjoyed the scenery and even did some Salmon watching. We spotted a few in some of the deep holes in the Salmon river.
From the Cecilville Rd. we turned south on HWY 96 for
Many eons ago i used to live/work in the Eureka area...will be nice to do a return visit, plus meeting some of the folks that Mark references...see ya.

My mother-in-law lives in Etna and last year my brother and I did some exploring along 96 and the Somes Bar road. There was a lot of construction on the Somes Bar and it was really narrow in some places. Gas along our route WAS a concern and we only found gas in one small town near Happy Camp I believe. All that was there were a couple of pumps and you had to have a credit card to get any gas. One pickup driver traded me cash to use my card to get some gas. Somes Bar road was interesting but I would not do it again. It was not THAT interesting. There are plenty of roads in the area that are much better and that have some facilities when you need them.

John are you gonna be my sweeper?

I'm getting more mileage on the bike, getting more comfortable but there is no way I can do 280 miles. So I'm thinking I'll putt along 299 and meet you guys in Willow Creek for lunch. Anyone else want to tag along on a slower pace, shorter route?
