I just stripped the paint off half of the rear on my CBR to get to the polished edge look I have on the ZRX. Applied Airpaint Stripper. Slaved a weekend on my ZRX to finish the job and I just did half a rim in about an hour on the Honda.

Since I didn't have to mask the ZRX rim to retain the black center and spoke paint (hard anodized), I had no problem getting superstraight transition lines.

Now to the Honda, I didn't mask either but soon observed that the center paint was not holding up, better then the edges but would still respond to the stripper. So now I need to prolly paint the edges of the black center to get straight lines. I didn't mess it up too bad but there are a few spots where the color is rubbed off about 1-2mm from the edge.

Any idea what kind of paint I could apply that matches the OEM black finish? Argh....

Also thinking about treating the bare alu. Looks like there is some promising product out there. (Keep us informed Naked )

Why not just shoot the entire spoke? Even if you want to keep it black the newer finish is probably going to make it look a whole lot better. You can't even believe how awesome auotmotive paint looks on wheels. (actually you will when you find out how much its costs!) :anmad:

Also, there's a product out there called "Bulldog" that automotive paint dealers highly recommend. Its a clear aerosol that that you fog on first that basically makes paint stick to anything without roughing the surface, including glossy, plastic or bare metal surfaces.

BTW. You probably already know this but for those that don't make sure that you don't buy an paint that's lacquer based or any other that partially dissolves the base coat to create adhesion.

Sounds like you've gotten addicted to paint stripping. Using any chemicals? :laff::laff::laff:

I used Mother's polish to protect the rims on my ZR7 after I polished the edges. I haven't done my REX rims yet, but I'm going to. I have aluminum barends, pegs and spools that are bare aluminum and they're fine! I just put a coat of Mother's on from time to time! :D
